Admission to the University of Marist is a competitive yet holistic process. We welcome ambitious, talented students from all backgrounds and are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent admissions experience. Our goal is to identify applicants with strong academic ability, intellectual curiosity, and the potential to thrive in our academic community. All applications are evaluated on individual merit – assessing academic credentials, personal statements, references, and where relevant, interview performance or portfolios. We pride ourselves on upholding equal opportunities and diversity, and we strive to support incoming students through various scholarships and dedicated services.
Entry Requirements and Application Process
Undergraduate applicants are expected to have excellent results from secondary education equivalent to UK A-Levels or the International Baccalaureate. Typically, this means high grades in relevant subjects; specific subject requirements may apply for certain courses. A well-crafted personal statement and strong academic references are also essential parts of the application, as they help us understand each candidate’s motivation and fit for their chosen programme. For most undergraduate degrees, applications are submitted via UCAS, the UK’s centralized admissions system, by the published deadlines. Shortlisted candidates for certain courses (for example, in art and design or architecture) may be invited to interview or asked to submit a portfolio.
For postgraduate admissions, applicants should normally hold a bachelor’s degree (with at least an upper second-class honours or equivalent) in a relevant field. Some programmes may require professional experience or a portfolio (especially for MBAs or creative degrees). Prospective postgraduate students apply directly to the University via our online portal. In addition to academic transcripts, a statement of purpose and letters of recommendation are crucial in demonstrating readiness for advanced study. We review postgraduate applications on a rolling basis and encourage early submission, as popular programmes can fill up quickly. International applicants should ensure they meet any visa-related deadlines and requirements as well.
Scholarships and Financial Support
The University of Marist is committed to making education accessible and rewarding academic excellence. We offer a range of scholarships, bursaries, and awards to help fund your studies. These include merit-based scholarships for outstanding academic achievement, subject-specific scholarships (for example, in STEM fields or the arts), and need-based bursaries to support students from lower-income backgrounds. International students can also compete for several scholarships designated for global applicants or specific regions. All applicants are automatically considered for our main entrance scholarships during the admissions review, and some other scholarships may require a separate application or interview. We provide clear guidance on how to apply for financial aid, and our Student Finance Office is available to assist with budgeting advice and information on external funding opportunities (such as government grants or international scholarship programmes).
International Student Support
We take pride in our welcoming international community and provide comprehensive support for students coming from abroad. Our International Admissions Team is experienced in evaluating a wide array of global qualifications and will guide you through each step of the application and visa process. Once you have an offer, our dedicated International Student Support Office offers pre-departure briefings to help you prepare for life in London. We assist with practical matters such as visa documentation (including the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies required for the UK Student Visa), finding accommodation, and setting up banking and healthcare upon arrival. New international students are invited to orientation programmes that introduce UK academic culture and city life, ensuring a smooth transition. Throughout your studies, you will have access to additional English language support, if needed, and a range of cultural and social events. Our active International Students’ Association and various cultural societies will help you connect with peers, celebrate your heritage, and make the most of your UK experience.
English Language Requirements
As English is the language of instruction at Marist, English proficiency is a must for all our programmes. If English is not your first language, you will need to provide proof of your ability to study in English. We accept internationally recognized tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge English qualifications. For most undergraduate courses, we typically require an IELTS overall score of around 6.5 (with no band lower than 6.0), or equivalent. Postgraduate programmes often have a slightly higher requirement, for example an IELTS 7.0, due to the advanced level of study. Please note that some programmes in fields like journalism or law may set higher sub-score requirements for writing or speaking. If you narrowly miss our language criteria, do not be discouraged – we offer pre-sessional English courses on campus before the academic year begins, designed to help students meet the required level. Additionally, applicants who have completed prior education in English (such as a degree taught in English) may be exempt from test requirements, subject to our approval. Ensuring all students can fully engage with the curriculum is paramount, and we provide ongoing in-sessional language support to help non-native speakers excel in their academic work.
